The return of Master Shake, Frylock, and Meatwad was announced back in January, and marks the animated comedy’s first new TV episodes in eight years. It’s being billed as Season 12 of one of Adult Swim’s first series, even though its official description concedes that it’s a “micro-itty-bitty-mini season.”
It’s not the first we’re seeing of the gang since the series last aired in 2015, though. There was also 2022’s straight-to-video feature Aqua Teen Forever: Plantasm, a sequel to 2007’s Aqua Teen Hunger Force Colon Movie Film for Theaters.
Original creators Dave Willis and Matt Maiellaro have returned for the TV revival, in addition to voice actors Carey Means as Frylock, Dana Snyder as Master Shake, and Willis as Meatwad and Carl.
Adult Swim says that the new episodes pick up “where we left off in 2015, as Master Shake, Frylock, and Meatwad have returned to solve all of life’s modern issues, and Carl returns because he can’t sell his crappy house because he lives next door to food.”
“Look for your favorite trio of ‘detectives’ to go head-to-head with A.I. appliances, join an apocalyptic fitness cult, and search for friendship through ancient Egyptian pyramid schemes,” the description continues. “In the end, all problems shall be solved, and all brains shall be melted. Did Adult Swim mess with a winning formula? You better believe it!”
Aqua Teen Hunger Force first aired all the way back in 2000, created as a spinoff series of Space Ghost Coast to Coast. It quickly became an Adult Swim staple of its own, however, and would go on to air 139 episodes through 2015, making it the longest-running series on the network at the time.
Correction: A previous version of this story said Aqua Teen Hunger Force Colon Movie Film for Theaters came out in 2017 . It actually came out in 2007.
